Jonathan Calder writes fiction and nonfiction that asks what happens when a powerful idea meets ordinary human life. The books move between science fiction, technology history, memoir, music and public affairs, but share a common interest in consequence: what we build, what we inherit and what we choose to do next.
The fiction combines large systems with domestic detail — laboratories and boardrooms alongside kitchens, pubs, families and the small decisions that reveal character. The nonfiction approaches complex subjects with an engineer's instinct for evidence, risk, trade-offs and accountability.
Current work
Sleepless is the current lead fiction project. The wider catalogue includes the Second Creation books, memoir, technology history, music history and political/historical nonfiction.
